What you can check yourself
- Confirm Site Availability is set to Public. Private and password-protected sites are not available for public indexing.
- Under Settings → Crawlers, leave Block Search engine crawlers unchecked when the site is intended for discovery.
- If current AI-assisted discovery is the goal, leave Block known artificial intelligence crawlers unchecked and inspect the resulting live
/robots.txt. - Check every important page for Hide page from search results. It should be off for pages intended to be found. Check collection settings as well because they can affect products or posts.
- Open
https://yourdomain.example/sitemap.xmland confirm the intended pages are present. - Keep essential facts on the public Squarespace page even when availability or booking is provided by an embedded system.
- Save, publish and rerun the assessment.
What healthy looks like
- The production site is Public.
- Search-engine blocking is off.
- AI crawler blocking is off when broad current AI discovery is intended.
- Important pages are not hidden from search results and appear in the sitemap.
Choosing which crawlers to allow
Squarespace's AI crawler switch applies to a list of bots maintained by Squarespace. If you want to allow search bots while restricting training bots, ask Squarespace support or your website specialist which options are available for your site.
