Check the relevant Squarespace settings and give your website provider a specific issue to review.

Level: Beginner · Reading time: 4 minutes

## What you'll learn

- Find the public access settings relevant to Squarespace
- Identify a specific issue to discuss with your website provider
- Retest the published website after a change

## What you can check yourself

1. Confirm **Site Availability** is set to **Public**. Private and password-protected sites are not available for public indexing.
2. Under **Settings → Crawlers**, leave **Block Search engine crawlers** unchecked when the site is intended for discovery.
3. If current AI-assisted discovery is the goal, leave **Block known artificial intelligence crawlers** unchecked and inspect the resulting live `/robots.txt`.
4. Check every important page for **Hide page from search results**. It should be off for pages intended to be found. Check collection settings as well because they can affect products or posts.
5. Open `https://yourdomain.example/sitemap.xml` and confirm the intended pages are present.
6. Keep essential facts on the public Squarespace page even when availability or booking is provided by an embedded system.
7. Save, publish and rerun the assessment.

## What healthy looks like

- The production site is Public.
- Search-engine blocking is off.
- AI crawler blocking is off when broad current AI discovery is intended.
- Important pages are not hidden from search results and appear in the sitemap.

## Choosing which crawlers to allow

Squarespace's AI crawler switch applies to a list of bots maintained by Squarespace. If you want to allow search bots while restricting training bots, ask Squarespace support or your website specialist which options are available for your site.

## Message for a Squarespace provider

> Our crawler-access assessment found **[EXACT ISSUE]** on **[PAGE URL]** for **[CRAWLER NAME]**. We want this public page available for current search and AI-assisted retrieval. Please check Site Availability, Settings → Crawlers, the page's Hide page from search results setting, the generated sitemap and any provider-managed restriction. Confirm the result on the published domain.
